Full Moon Cruise #2 (2017)

The 2nd cruise of the BSC Full Moon Cruisers was a big success May 5 – 7. The Friday evening sail was cancelled due to high winds. Out of 14 sailors signed up, 11 went down the Neuse to Club Foot Creek on Saturday in windy 17+ winds from SSW. Most sailors left between 9:30 and noon, went across to 17 and put up one sail, and screamed down the Neuse By the time I got to the ferry, I was averaging 7 kts with a reefer for sail. Very good, safe ride.

We anchored up and called the Pirate Uber for a water taxi for a 5 pm round-up at the Drechslers’ 41’ Hot Chocolate. Captain Bill was Uber on the water. Everyone brought food to share and no one left hungry. Very gracious host boat and we all thank you, Sandy and Bill. Sunday saw boats departing from 8 – 11 am. Three of the 11 sailboats sailed all the way back to Blackbeard IN AGAIN 17+ knots, on the nose, windy conditions. The smallest to leave the harbor was 26’ and the largest was 41’. Bruce encountered engine issues and returned to port on Saturday in his Com-pac 23. Only 2 found the bottom departing Sunday morning with no issues getting free.

The overwhelming consensus was an excellent weekend sail trip. We all hope to see more boats leave the docks in June.

Charlie Batchelor, S/V Wings. Freedom 28CK The May cruise leader.
